Natural Homemade Lip Balm
We have been getting great feedback about our lip balms, so I thought I’d fill you all in on what they are made with. We don’t claim to use all natural ingredients, but we try to keep our products as natural as we can. Our lip balms are made with beeswax, coconut oil, olive oil, vitamin e oil, flavor oil, mica powder and powdered sugar.
Beeswax – Beeswax contains anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-allergenic properties. Beeswax has fantastic skin-softening properties and enhances skin elasticity.
Coconut oil – Coconut oil contains antioxidants that help protect the skin from harmful radiation from the sun, and coconut oil helps to hydrate skin and reinforce its natural defensive barrier to better retain moisture.
Olive oil – Olive oil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and is rich in antioxidants. It also contains squalene and vitamin E. Squalene supports the skin’s moisture retention, and vitamin E increases the skin’s capacity to absorb and retain water.
Mica powder – Mica powder is a purified and crushed mica mineral. We use it to color our lip balm.
Beeswax is what makes our lip balms heat stable. I always carry my lip balm in my pants pocket, and it has never melted from body heat. And Vitamin E oil is what makes our balms so shiny and glossy.
The flavor oil mixed with powdered sugar is how we get the lip balm to smell and taste so good. Without the sugar, the taste wouldn’t be there. The sugar tricks your brain into thinking you’re tasting what the lip balm smells like.
